About Me

Born in 1964, I’ve been interested in radio since I was a nipper and could hear my dad, Pat EI9CB, in the attic working stations from all over the world.  Graduated from Carlow Institute of Technology in 1984 with a degree in electrical engineering.  I started my own computer company in 1989 (and still in business to this day!), Hamsoft Communications, specialising in computer repairs and networks.  In 1994 I married my beautiful, and patient wife, Maresa, our first daughter, Caoimhe, was born in 1997, and our second daughter, Aoibhinn, was born in 2000.  We have 2 Cavalier King Charles spaniels who thankfully don’t like coming into my shack, I think they are RF sniffers!  My QTH in the countryside is noise free for now! and I have loads of room for antennas.  One of my favourite aspects of radio is experimenting with homebrew antennas.  I am Hon. Secretary of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society (IRTS) and also the Monitoring System Co-ordinator for EI & IRTS Region 4 representative, Hon. Secretary also for Limerick Radio Club.  Newsreader for the IRTS HF news on Sunday’s at Noon on 3.650.  Member of RSGB, ARRL, NCDXF, FISTS, CDXC.

    Hello Ger,
I am sure that your OM Pat, who I liked to think of as my friend and arch rival is very proud of you..You have achieved a lot and I am sure there is a lot more to come….However never get too big headed….I don’t think you will, but It is surprising how quickly we are are all forgotten. no matter what we do or have done!!!!! Remember that. Think of all the former members of the Society that YOU know nothing about but who did their bit in the hard days. Long before RICE BOXES became dominate. They actually built their transmitters and receivers They were the TRUE EXPERIMENTERS. unfortunatly forgotten now.
